Musicphilic Winds was established as a community band in September 2008, which aims at providing an open, independent and background-free music-making place for musicians.
Over the years, Musicphilic Winds has successfully held numerous anniversary concerts, inviting various art performance groups to collaborate on performances, including Double Mallet Ringers, SDM Jazz & Ballet Academie, Piano soloist Mr. Cedric Chan, Trumpet soloist Mr. Fung Ka Hing, and Saxophone soloist Dr. Wong Tak Chiu.
The “-philic” of “Musicphilic” means affinity. The name “Musicphilic” represents that we are a group of music lovers and players who have an affinity for music, who are able to communicate through music, and moved by music.
Music Director & Principal Conductor
Yip Chun-Kit, a Hong Kong local trombone player and conductor. By 2002 Yip was enrolled by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) as an undergraduate with major study in Bass Trombone performance, and had participated in the Academic Brass Ensemble's European performance tour. Yip was then admitted to the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2004. By 2006 he acquired his Bachelor degree.
Yip is proactive in contributing to the society as a band director in local schools, and trombone tutor of HKAPA junior program and Hong Kong Music Office. Known as a committed music educator, Yip has extensive experience in coaching lower brass instruments and symphonic bands. He also works as the conductor of school bands in T.W.G.H's Yow Kam Yuen College and T.W.G.H's Li Ka Shing College since 2003 and 2012. With his strong belief in music education, he has been organizing various music tours, exchange programme and workshops since 2003, e.g. 2008 to Taiwan, 2012 to Korea, 2014 to Singapore, 2016 to Australia, 2019 to Beijing and 2024 to Germany and Austria.
As the Music Director and conductor of Musicphilic Winds since 2014, Yip has been leading us through success completion of more than 10 remarkable concerts.
